Apple is reportedly planning to launch a new all-screen M5 MacBook sometime in 2026.According to Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple originally planned to launch the 20.3-inch MacBook in 2027; however, it has moved the timeline for the device up to 2026.As you might imagine, a lot of the details about the new laptop are up in the air, including its size. Kuo says that multiple foldable screen options are still on the table, and while he currently expects the device to sport a 20.3-inch screen, that display could potentially be replaced with an 18.8-inch panel. The two screens would fold and would resemble the 14-15-inch MacBook or 13-14-inch MacBook respectively.According to Kuo “Apple aims to make the panel as crease-free as possible, requiring high design specifications for both the panel and the hinge. As a result, the cost of the panel and hinge is very high. Current preliminary estimates put the panel and hinge costs at around $600–650 and $200–250, respectively.”With those high costs, the laptop itself is also likely to come at a pretty high price tag.“Unless Apple can significantly improve yields and reduce costs before mass production, the BOM cost of the foldable MacBook could approach that of the current Vision Pro,” Kuo says.

In addition to that all-screen display, the MacBook is anticipated to have an M5 series chip. All that said, the device is still currently at a rumor stage. Should it come to fruition, we’re likely to hear a lot more about it before 2026 rolls around.
