If you owned an iPhone 7, there’s still time to claim your share of a recent class action lawsuit settlement. The settlement pool is $35 million, with payouts to impacted customers expected to range from $5 to $394. The lawsuit focused on audio issues the device suffered, specifically with its microphone.A judge initially set a deadline of June 3rd for iPhone 7 owners to make a claim; however, it recently extended that deadline to July 3.That said, getting part of that settlement money isn’t as easy as just owning an iPhone 7. In order to qualify for a payment, you either need to have paid out of pocket for repair to your iPhone due to its audio issues or reported your audio issues to Apple.Members who paid Apple out of pocket for repairs or replacements for Covered Issues, as reflected in Apple’s records, who do not opt-out and timely submit payment information to the Settlement Administrator will receive an equal payment of at least $50 and no more than $349. Settlement Class Members who reported Covered Issues to Apple, but who did not pay Apple out of pocket for repairs or replacements for Covered Issues, will receive an equal payment of up to $125. The audio issues were caused by the launch of iOS 11.3, which triggered a hardware bug in the phones. The issue was initially thought to be a microphone issue but was later discovered to be caused by a faulty “audio IC” chip. Apple eventually started offering free repairs for the issue, even if the phones were out of warranty.
