Every month we go through the announcements from Disney+, and try to pick out content that we find appealing and think you’ll love. Some months are easier than others, and July 2024 is looking especially dire. The Acolyte wraps up, but we get no new Star Wars or Marvel content. Instead, the scant slate of new stuff includes a bunch of shark documentaries, Bluey, and a few other things. Here are our picks for the best new movies and series streaming on Disney+ in July.Sharkfest (July 1)
The start of the month brings a package of shark-related specials to the streaming service. Some of the most interesting stuff includes Sharks Gone Viral, which dives deep into the stories of marine animals caught on video, as well as Shark vs. Ross Edgley, where the ultra-marathon swimmer tests his mettle against the ocean’s peak predator. Why Sharkfest? Who knows, but they’re into it.Descendants: Rise Of Red (July 12)
This is one of those popular franchises that you’ll simply never hear about if you’re not in the target audience. The Descendants series of films tell the tales of the children of notorious Disney villains like Jafar, Malificent, and Cruella de Vil as they look to escape the long shadows of their parents and make their own way in the world. The latest installment focuses on the daughter of the Queen of Hearts from Alice in Wonderland, who has to travel back in time to prevent her mom from going insane.
Live-streaming kid-friendly sports seems like a pretty logical niche for Disney+, and on June 21 they’ll be broadcasting from Canton, Ohio, with a 30-game showcase of the top 15U boys and 18U girls teams as they come together to battle for the NFL FLAG Championship title. Flag football’s especially fun to watch if the concussion-causing collisions of the regular game make you uncomfortable, and these kids can put together some pretty impressive plays.Everything Coming to Disney+ in July 2024
