Amaran’s new app controls your LED lights from your desktop, laptop or mobile device

Amaran, formerly part of Aputure, has announced a new Amaran App. Not surprisingly, the app lets you control LED lights. It appears to be something similar to Aputure’s Sidus Link Pro app. Except, Amaran’s isn’t just limited to mobiles or tablets. It’s available on the desktop, too.

It’s available on iOS, Android, HarmonyOS, macOS and Windows. Surprisingly, perhaps, no Linux version. This one’s targeted more towards gamers and live streamers, though. It even feature Stream Deck integration.

Lighting control on the desktop

The remote control capabilities of LED lights have come a long way over the last decade or so. Driven by the developments of both the lights themselves and the capabilities of smartphones, things keep getting better and better.

Something thing we very rarely see, though, is a desktop (or laptop) app for controlling lights. It’s always either for smartphones or tablets – with very few exceptions. Well, the new Amaran App is available for smartphones and tablets, of course, in iOS, Android or HarmonyOS flavours.

But that’s not all.

The new app is available for both Windows and macOS desktops and laptops. I am a little surprised there’s not a Linux version, but I’m certainly not going to complain about the others.

Designed specifically with creators in mind

The company says that the Amaran App was “designed specifically with creators in mind”. Primarily, this means gamers, streamers, and work-from-home professionals who need to always have easy access to their lighting.

And, well, it makes sense that people like that would already be sitting at their computers. So, why not let their computer also control the lights, rather than having to switch to another device? It seems like an obvious question, which makes me wonder why we haven’t seen something from a company sooner.

The app offers full control over all compatible Amaran and Aputure LED lights and devices – like the Sidus Link Bridge. It brings together the power of Aputure’s Sidus Link Pro app in a more intuitive and easy-to-use way for home users and small creators – or even larger creators and crews who just prefer a desktop app over a tablet or phone.

You can control how bright all of your lights are, what colour they are – or the white balance for bicolours – turn them on or off, effects and more. And given that it’s available on almost all of the most common platforms, it can slot into most workflows.

For those who use a Stream Deck, the Amaran app takes this into account and can utilise it. This allows you to set up quick shortcut buttons for your favourite lighting setups, settings and features, with looks presets and customisable shortcuts.

Price and Availability

So, how much will all this cost you? Some monthly subscription? Nope, not a penny. The Amaran App is available to download today, completely free, for a variety of mobile and desktop platforms.
