Apple Agrees to First Union Contract Deal for US Retail Employees

Apple has reached a tentative collective bargaining agreement with retail employees at a store in Maryland, marking the first time the company has made a retail union contract deal in the US.The deal includes new rules about scheduling, severance, and subcontracting. Before it goes into effect, it must be approved by 85 employees in the bargaining unit. Those employees are expected to vote on Aug. 6, Bloomberg reports. The deal will also increase pay for workers by an average of 10% over three years. The store in Towson, Maryland, is one of two unionized Apple stores in the United States. Workers there joined the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) in June 2022. They also authorized a strike in May due to ongoing contract negotiations with the company.
