Apple has announced new versions of its Final Cut Pro and Logic Pro software, which bring new features to the iPad and Mac versions. Apple unveiled the changes to Final Cut and Logic on Tuesday as part of its “Let Loose” livestream event, where it also announced new iPad models and an upgraded Apple Pencil.Final Cut Pro for iPad 2 is getting Live Multicam, which adds a viewfinder tool for video production via a new Final Cut Camera iPad app, set to release later this spring. With Final Cut Camera, Apple fans, hobbyists, or influencers looking to make their next big video can connect up to four iPhones or iPads to view multiple camera feeds simultaneously. Apple says if you want to film directly on its devices, you can adjust settings in-app. Preview clips are synced with Final Cut Pro’s iPad app. Final Cut Camera will work on iPhone XS and above running iOS 17.4 and later and iPad models with iOS 17.4 and up.While Hollywood isn’t using Apple’s iPads or iPhones to film projects, it’s common for directors and directors of photography to use view-finding apps on tablets or smartphones to help them visualize shots on location scouting trips or during production. We’ll have to wait for more details on aspect ratio or lens-simulation settings like those found on professional directors’ viewfinder apps to see how helpful Apple’s Live Multicam could actually be for Hollywood productions. It’s certainly something everyday people could use when filming with Apple devices to make YouTube videos or record family events. For those filming directly on an iPad or iPhone, Final Cut Camera includes white balance, manual focus, ISO, shutter speed, and focus peaking settings. And when it comes to editing, Final Cut Pro for iPad 2 will come with 12 color-grading presets, more text titles, 20 new soundtracks, and pre-loaded backgrounds that can be used to make overlays on top of existing footage.Apple is also updating its macOS version of Final Cut Pro 10.8 with some AI features: Enhance Light and Color, and Smooth Slo-Mo. Enhance Light and Color is a fast way to get AI to automatically adjust the color, brightness, contrast, and color balance of your footage. Smooth Slo-Mo uses AI to slow down footage by generating new frames to fill in the gaps so the slow-motion output looks less choppy. Apple is also rolling out a new version of its music production software, Logic Pro, to include new AI-generated instruments to add to your tracks. Specifically, Apple’s updating its Bass Player and Keyboard Player for live music sessions. Logic Pro will now have eight different Bass Player styles and four Keyboard Player options. Both AI instruments are intended to match the user’s inputs and sync up with them, Apple says.

Logic Pro is also getting a new “Stem Splitter” feature that uses AI to take an existing exported recording, like a Voice Memo recording, and break it apart into vocals, drums, bass, and other components, effectively allowing users to easily remix or complete the tracks more quickly. ChromaGlow is another new AI feature for Logic and allows users to tweak the tone and mood of their music in the app. Existing iPad and Mac users who previously purchased Final Cut or Logic Pro will get these updates for free when they go live. Logic Pro updates will roll out May 13, while Final Cut’s updates will be released “later this spring.”Otherwise, get the Final Cut Pro and Logic Pro for iPad updates with a subscription for $4.99 per month or $49 per year with a one-month free trial. Final Cut Pro for Mac 10.8 will be $299.99 with a 90-day trial. Logic Pro for Mac 11 will be $199.99.
