Looking to kick back in your hotel room this weekend to catch up on your favorite Apple TV+ show? That’s finally possible now that Apple has rolled out support for AirPlay in hotels.Apple announced the feature at WWDC 2023 as an iOS 17 feature, but its release was pushed to 2024 alongside collaborative playlists for Apple Music. The latter debuted in January, and now AirPlay for hotel rooms is finally here, too.”Starting today, guests staying at select properties from IHG Hotels & Resorts…can use AirPlay to privately and securely stream their favorite shows and movies on Apple TV+,” Apple says. “More than 60 IHG properties in North America are introducing AirPlay today, with others to be added in the coming months.”The hotels currently supporting the feature are listed on IHG’s website and include Holiday Inn, Avid Hotels, Candlewood Suites, and others in New York, California, Florida, Texas, Georgia, Michigan, and others. Canada has three Holiday Inn locations and Mexico has two Avid Hotels locations where AirPlay is available. Future locations will include Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants and InterContinental Hotels & Resorts. IHG’s website should be updated as new hotels are added, so frequent travelers are encouraged to bookmark the site and check back later. To use AirPlay in your hotel room, Apple says users can scan the QR code on the LG-branded TV in their guest room. That’ll link the guest to the hotel’s Wi-Fi and connect them to the TV simultaneously. Each QR code is unique to the hotel room so guests don’t have to worry about someone else connecting and streaming content to their hotel room TV. The QR code is also changed after checkout.
