Apple has reportedly stopped developing a second-generation Vision Pro in favor of working on a slimmed-down, more affordable version of the headset.According to The Information, Apple is looking to price the lower-end Vision Pro around $1,500 to help it compete with products like the Meta Quest. The Vision Pro currently retails for $3,500, putting it out of reach for many would-be buyers.Getting to that lower price will require some trade-offs. The Information reports that Apple is struggling to cut the price without significantly diminishing the user experience. On the plus side, one of the changes may be a lighter weight, as its heft has been a top complaint among users.We likely won’t find out what Apple comes up with until the end of 2025. And a second-gen, high-end Vision Pro isn’t totally out of the question. While Apple has stopped development for now, it could eventually start work again and offer it alongside the less expensive version.

Until then, the upcoming visionOS 2 has some upgrades in store for the existing headset, including AI-powered spatial photos and videos. Later this year, the Mac Virtual Display will support a higher display resolution and size, while an updated Travel Mode will add train mode.
