Fresh off the news that Tesla is ditching its plans to launch a low-priced model in favor of focusing on the creation of a robotaxi, the company has dropped the price tag for its Model Y, Model S, and Model X vehicles by $2,000 in the United States and is getting rid of its referral program. Electrek reports that the price change brings the Model Y to its lowest price yet after taking into account the federal EV tax incentives which are now available at your point-of-sale. The base model of the vehicle is $42,990, which after incentives makes its price tag around $35k.The discount is similar to what Tesla offered previously on the vehicle; however, that discount was temporary rather than a permanent price drop. The price drop also marks the lowest price ever for the Model X, taking the price to $70,490 upfront with the EV tax credit for those under the income cap.The price drops comes not only after news of Tesla scrapping its $25k EV, but after the company’s year-over-years dropped for the first time since 2020, falling short of its 2023 deliveries by nearly 100,000 vehicles.Tesla’s referral program also is no longer. The company announced the change, which will go into effect April 30th, on X late Friday.

The company has ditched the program previously, so just because it’s so long for now doesn’t mean it’s so long forever. On Friday Tesla also announced a recall for its new Cybertruck over concerns regarding the vehicle’s accelerator pedal. The pedal cover can reportedly slide off and get wedged under its interior trim, making it difficult to stop or control the vehicle.
