Every summer brings an opportunity to check out the Perseid meteor shower, and if you’re looking to catch the best of the show, tonight’s your night. The Perseids typically arrive annually in late July and last for several weeks. This year’s meteor shower hits its peak tonight and will continue into the wee hours of Monday. According to NASA, the shower is part of the debris stream of the comet Swift-Tuttle and started in late July, although tonight it will be at its best. While most nights up until now, you’ve only been able to catch a few meteors, NASA says tonight we can expect anywhere between a few dozen per hour or a brief “burst” of up to two hundred shooting stars in a single hour.If you want to catch a glimpse, NASA recommends finding a spot free from light pollution and clear skies, ideally outside a large city.
