Building on the momentum it received from X’s recent ban in Brazil, Bluesky is adding support for videos on its mobile app and desktop site. Users can now post videos up to 60 seconds in length, the platform announced in a blog post on Wednesday. At launch, Bluesky supports video in four formats: .mp4, .mpeg, .webm, and .mov. Each post can have only one video, and you can upload a total of 25 videos or 10GB of video per day. These limits might be tweaked in the future, Bluesky says. You can attach subtitles to your videos and add labels to warn viewers of sensitive or adult content. To finish uploading a video, however, you’ll have to verify your email. Bluesky says this is being done to reduce spam and harmful content. Bluesky will also process each video through Hive and Thorn to remove content containing illegal material (child sexual abuse, for example) and issue warnings for videos that require it. If a user repeatedly violates the community guidelines, Bluesky will cease their ability to upload videos.By default, all videos that appear on your feed will auto-play, but you can easily turn off the feature in Settings. Additionally, if you delete a post containing a video, Bluesky says they will remove the same from their database “shortly afterwards.”

The option to upload videos is rolling out with version 1.91 of the mobile app. Desktop users can just refresh the page to see if they have received the update. Unfortunately, not all users will be able to access the feature right away.”We are making uploads available randomly to users in increments,” Bluesky CTO Paul Frazee mentioned in a post. “We don’t know how long this will take, but we will move as fast as we can.”
